Patrick J. Fahey - General Counsel
Patrick obtained his Bachelor of Commerce from St. Patrick’s College, Ottawa, in 1956 and was the recipient of the Governor General’s Medal for the highest academic standing in his graduating class.
He worked for the federal Department of Finance, in the field of insurance, from 1953 until 1956. Patrick completed his LL.B. at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law in 1961, again graduating with distinction and was awarded the gold medal for his achievements in law school.
Patrick completed Articles with the firm of Quain & Quain in Ottawa, and the Bar Admission Course at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. He received his Call to the Bar in 1963 and remained with Quain & Quain until 1965. From 1965 to 1969, Patrick was a member of the legal staff at T. Eaton Company Ltd. In 1969, Patrick moved with his family to the Sutton area and purchased the law practice that continues today
For forty years, Patrick has served the legal needs of his community as a respected member and is a respected member of the Ontario Bar. He has also been a Small Claims Court Judge for 32 years, having been appointed in 1977.
Patrick is a proud member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations, and the York Region Law Association. He served on the board of directors for Southlake Regional Health Centre (formerly York County Hospital) from 1977 until 1990 and has been an active member of the Kinsmen Club and K-40 for many years.
One of the many highlights of Patrick’s career was when his daughter, Carolyn Crate, joined the firm in 2004. In 2007, his son-in-law, Jim Crate, also joined the firm, and the practice was purchased by Carolyn and Jim in January, 2009. Patrick remains as general counsel to the new firm of Fahey Crate Law Professional Corporation.
Carolyn P. Crate
Carolyn worked in the banking industry and as an insurance broker in the property and casualty insurance industry until she was accepted to the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Law. She obtained her
law degree in 2003 and articled with the law firm of Brown Beattie O’Donovan in London, Ontario. Carolyn returned to Sutton to work with her father, in his law practice. In January, 2009, Carolyn with her husband, Jim, purchased the law practice.
Prior to attending law school, Carolyn obtained a Diploma in Business Administration with Honours from Seneca College and received the Governor General’s Bronze Medal Award. Carolyn also obtained her Associateship through the Insurance Institute of Ontario with High Honours. She is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and the York Region Law Association.
Carolyn currently serves as a Director on the board of Georgina Trades Training Inc. (“G.T.T.I”.), and is a member of the Board of Directors of the York Region Law Association. Carolyn with her husband, Jim, is honoured to be fulfilling the legal needs of the Town of Georgina and surrounding area.
James R. Crate
Jim was a member of the Ontario Provincial Police from 1991 until 2007. During his tenure, he acquired significant experience in the area of criminal law, major case management and human resource management. Jim sat on many community policing boards and participated in numerous community initiatives. He has also chaired boards in the area of Law and Security Administration and Police Foundations at the community college level.
Jim received the Commissioner’s Citation for Community Service, the Archie Ferguson Award for Community Service, the Award of Honour for commitment to the Ontario Special Olympics, the Commissioner’s Letter for Community Service, and nomination for ‘Police Officer of the Year’ through the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police. He was also an honourary Ambassador to the Special Olympics World Games.
After graduating from the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Law and completing the Ontario Bar Admission Course, Jim articled with the firms of Patrick J. Fahey Law Office and Monteith Baker Johnston & Doodnauth PC. Jim is a proud member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations, and the York Region Law Association.
Jim is excited to be working alongside his wife, Carolyn, and his father-in-law, Patrick, under the new name of Fahey Crate Law Professional Corporation. Jim is pleased to have returned to live in and serve the community in which he was raised. |
